The Agricultural Task Force will provide input to the Tipton County Commissioners on sustaining agriculture, attracting good paying agri-business to the county, evaluating what is currently being done by local efforts, and making recommendations. Its goal is to identify the major challenges facing agriculture in Tipton County and to recommend ways to secure the agricultural future by preserving and promoting a strong agrarian based economy over the next several decades. Within this goal there are two missions to accomplish. First, to encourage and support farming as a viable livelihood and to help eliminate the pressures that threaten this occupation; and secondly to seek out, assist and encourage agri-businesses to locate in cluster areas set aside for development. Ultimately the Ag Task Force will develop an integrated vision of sustainable farming (production practices and systems), linked with the business areas of agriculture related to research, education, and technology.
Ag Task Force
Created in July, 2006 in an effort to entice businesses to locate in Tipton County that will compliment our natural resources, the Agricultural Task force will serve as local agriculture and agri-business advocates. Members will be the “ambassadors” responsible for promoting the need to focus our employment on businesses that correspond to our agricultural superiority, while remaining cognizant of the importance of protecting productive farmland.
Members of the Ag Task Force will work with existing entities that agree to the value of integrating agriculture into the county's job creation strategies. The future of agriculture begins in an early education emphasis on the value of preserving the county's fertile acres for the production of food and in promoting the advancement of agricultural technology.
